Episode 358: How To Handle Unsolicited Advice

Have you ever received any unsolicited advice from well meaning people? I’m sure I am not the only one who has.

Typically, advice comes from a place of love and caring.  Oftentimes when we get this unsolicited advice, we don’t realize that it’s coming from a place of love. The more aware you are of your own emotional intelligence, you can realize they are projecting their own emotional baggage on you. Who are you to try to change someone’s beliefs? If we look at our own behavior, we also give unsolicited advice all the time.

“When we fail to set boundaries and hold people accountable, we feel used and mistreated.” - Brene Brown

If you make a conscious effort to pay attention to what you are saying, you can notice the times when you are giving unsolicited advice and make an effort to step back. If you are overwhelmed or annoyed by people projecting things on you, take a shower or exercise. Find a physical movement that helps you “shake it off”.  If you aren’t sure where to start, book you intro call with my team member Sausha to see if my coaching is a perfect fit for what you are looking for.
