Episode 472: Never Underestimate The Power Of A Mental Health Day
Red, Yellow, and Green Zones.
If you have been listening to the podcast for a while, then you have heard me talk about the red, yellow, and green zones. (If you missed it, check it out on episode 263 wherever you listen to podcasts).
I get it, it’s easy to lose patience and yell at your children, especially in the summertime when they are ALWAYS there.
But let me tell you a secret: learning what your triggers are and managing your zones of regulation can help you be a calmer, more patient parent.
You might be asking yourself, How is this possible?
All people have red, yellow, and green zones. Learning to recognize times when either you or your children are in a red (bad) or yellow (moderate) zone will greatly help you!
You do not solve problems in your red zone. It’s like a stop sign. Just STOP and MOVE AWAY.
"Calmness is the cradle of power." -Josiah Gilbert Holland
When you are triggered, work to remain calm. Sit with your anger for about 10 seconds and talk yourself through it. Recognize that tantrums come from a place of red or yellow zones.
Pay attention to your children’s triggers as well and help them talk through things so they can start to regulate their own zones.
My challenge for you is to recognize what your triggers are so you can start to delineate where your zones of regulation are.
We were not created to do this alone. If you aren’t sure where to start, you can CLICK HERE here to set up an intro call with my team member Sausha to see if my coaching is a perfect fit for what you need.
In this episode, I talk about:
The importance of taking a mental health day each week
How to give your kids space for their own mental health
How to effectively check in with your kids about their mental health
